4-H OPPORTUNITIES
SCHOLARSHIP

4-H Opportunities Scholarship applications are now at  the CEA office.  Any senior 4-Her wishing to apply needs to call the CEA office for more information.  The deadline for submitting this application will be February 22, 2000 at the CEA office.

REQUIREMENTS

Remember in order to remain a   4-H member in good standing to remain eligible to show you must:
1. Attend at least 3 4-H educational activities.
2. Turn in a project record form.
3. Remain academically eligible.  Remember that Fair workdays, etc. DO NOT count as 4-H educational activities.


WCFA FAIR WORKDAYS:

Feb. 26  9 am - 12 pm
March 4  9 am - 12 pm
March 11 9 am - 12 pm
March 18 9 am - 12 pm
March 25 9 am - 12 pm
After Fair Clean-Up:
April 9th  2 pm - 4 pm
Remember all exhibitors must work at the concession stand during the Fair.

COMMERCIAL HEIFER CLUB

The Commercial Heifer Club will have its final meeting of the year on February 22nd. This will be an important informational meeting about duties for the Fair.

LAMB & GOAT CLUB MEETING TIME CHANGE

The February 15th meeting will be at 6 p.m. at the Walker County Fairgrounds. A clipping demonstration will be presented.
The March 21st meeting will be at the CEA Office at 7 p.m.


HORSE CLUB RECORDBOOKS

All members that turned in record books for the year can begin picking them up. We will keep them on file until March 1, please pick them up before this date if you would like to have them available for next year.

HORSE CLUB PACKETS

Enrollment forms and designation papers were distributed at the January 25th organizational meeting. These are due back at the CEA Office ASAP so we can prepare practice rosters and mailing addresses. May 1 is the last day to change designations of horses.

HORSE CLUB BANQUET PICTURES

Pictures from the Horse Club Banquet have arrived. They must be picked up by March 1. The price will be $9/ picture. Remember to deliver them to your donor and thank them for their support!


HORSE CLUB FUTURITY NOMINATIONS

Horse Club members that will do a Futurity Project will need to pick up a nomination form. Nomination forms are due back to the CEA Office on or before March 15.

There is also a $10 fee for processing.

HORSEMANSHIP CLINIC

Would you like to improve your horsemanship skills? The Walker County 4-H Horse Club will sponsor a Horsemanship Clinic to be taught by Texas A&M  Students. We tentatively have three choices pending: 1st choice-May 31-June 1, 2nd choice-June 2-3, and 3rd choice-June 5-6. Please keep these dates in mind and we will inform you of the exact date as soon as it becomes available.

LIVESTOCK JUDGING TEAM

The Walker County 4-H Livestock Judging Team recently competed at the SHSU Invitational Contest and placed 2nd overall. Congratulations team!
Team members are: Jessica Baggett, Randal Prehoda, Brandy Prehoda, Courtney Jackson, Kaitlyn Van Hess, Justin Hill, Sean Clements, and Whitney Campbell. They will compete next at the San Antonio Livestock Exposition, Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo and District 9 contests.

DOG CLUB NEWS

The Dog Club will have an informational meeting on Monday, February 21, 6:30 p.m.
at the CEA Office. A program about the Drug Dog Program will be presented.
A field trip to Austin for the "Mighty Texas Dog Walk" is planned for February 26th. Members will be attempting to break the record of number of dogs walked at one time (2,114).
